Why Are Our Favorite Shows Off Netflix?

We all love a little drama in our life- sadness, anger, anything. But don’t you hate when your favorite show has been taken off of Netflix? Believe it or not, there is reasoning behind why some of our guilty pleasures disappear before our eyes.

When you come home right after work or school,  you want to lay down and get comfortable. So you go on Netflix to watch your favorite show  “Pretty Little Liars”, and you’re five seasons deep, just to realize it's been taken off your streaming platform.

Netflix takes down TV shows and movies because, “Though we strive to keep the titles you want to watch, some titles do leave Netflix because of licensing agreements. Whenever a TV show or movie license is expiring, we consider things such as: ‘Are the rights to the title still available?’, ‘How popular is it, and how much does it cost?’ ‘Seasonal and regional factors?’” Netflix.com said.

Reed Hastings, Netflix’s CEO, explained that the titles differ in each country because of territorial licensing.  Netflix also has to consider copyrights and other legal facets that each country implements.

Subscirbers often express their dissatisfaction with content coming and going off the platform. “I think it’s really annoying how all of these awesome shows are being taken off Netflix for other content that doesn’t even compare”. Says one viewer. “I personally have not liked any of the new shows that have come out on Netflix in the past year.”

As you can see, subscribers don’t like when Netflix just pops up with “This show will be removed on September 17th”. Nobody wants to be in the middle of watching something and then one day it disappears, but it's more or less out of our control and up to Netflix to make the big calls.
