2022 Mission Viejo SMOC Summary

On the final day of the swim meet, 4 times Olympic Gold Medalist Ryan Murphy swam the 100 Meter Backstroke in 53.49 seconds, although Murphy did scratch the finals, this time stands as his second fastest 2022 swim for this event. The fastest being 53.03. His fastest time ranks him second in the world this 2022, with US International Team Trials coming up sooner than you think, starting near the end of April 2022. Murphy also competed in the 100 Meter Butterfly, winning the event with a time of 53.14 seconds, only .38 seconds slower than his PR (Personal Record) of 52.76.

Nick Mahabir, at only 16 years old swimming for the Coronado Swim Association-Team Elite, crushed the competition in the 100 Meter Breastroke, with a time of 1:02.02. Just .10 seconds off of his best of 1:01.92 which Mahabir swam in prelims. His fastest time placed him 5th of All-Time in the 15-16 Age Group.

Kayla Han, 13-year-old 2021 Olympic Trials swimmer, wins the 800 Meter Freestyle stopping the clock at 8:42.15. Ranking her #5 13-year-old of all time. Kayla also competed in the 200 Individual Medley, achieving a personal best of 2:17.62.

Teagen O’Dell competed in and won the 100 Meter Backstroke and 200 Meter Individual Medley events. Not swimming best times, but more than enough to win both races. Finished off with a 1:01.54 for the Backstroke, and 2:14.77 for the Medley.

17-year-old Mitchell Schott, won two gold medals, many points for his team, Irvine Novaquatics, and two personal bests, all in one day. Dropping .52 seconds in the 100 Meter Butterfly, to a 54.61 from 55.13. Dropping even more time in the 200 Meter Individual Medley, finishing the first length of the pool well ahead of the competition, and with a split time of 26.69. Finally stopping the clock at 2:06.08, Schott dropped .12 seconds.
