Cat and Pet Adoption

There are multiple ways to adopt a pet cat, and all of them are unique in their own way.

Many people who want a cat head straight to their local pet store, such as Petco or PetSmart. Adopting a cat from PetSmart typically costs between $50 and $350, depending on the local rescue organization and the cat’s age. These adoption fees are for partner shelters and include initial vetting such as spaying/neutering and vaccinations. The final price varies by location and the specific animal. The price can vary based on the cat’s age (kittens may cost more), the specific rescue group, and the location. Some rescues may offer a discount for adopting a bonded pair. The fee covers spaying or neutering, initial vaccinations, and microchipping.

Another option is to go to a local shelter, such as Priceless Pet Rescue on Newport Blvd or A Home 4 Ever on 17th St. They are prevalent in numbers and are usually the go-to way to adopt a cat. They do require you to sign a ton of papers though, and they also require an photo ID, proof of residence, you being at least 18, and approval from your landlord if you rent. It can be a hassle but it’s usually worth it in the long run, this way would require a bit of money too, as low as 30 and potentially up to 200 dollars.

A more unique way to adopt a cat is going to a cat cafe, such as Cat Nap Hangout and Adoptions in Huntington Beach. Cat cafes are what they sound like…cafes that have cats at them. You could get a coffee and be around multiple cats. Sometimes cat cafes have offers to adopt the cats they have there. Another local example of one would be the Fluffy Tail Cafe in Tustin. Usually they range cheaper than a shelter, being around $50-175 usually, so if you have a a smaller budget, a cat cafe might be the best option.

Now there is a FREE way to get a pet cat, and that is to adopt a stray. This is a very risky option, because either they’ll be a loving pet, or they’ll be too feral. There’s a risk to doing it this way but it can SOMETIMES turn out in your favor.

Those are all the multiple ways to get a pet cat, hopefully this is of help to you!
