The Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football Women’s Gold Cup, also known as CONCACAF W Gold Cup has begun about two weeks ago, bringing in teams from all around the world, coming from North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and guests from South America. As teams begin to face off against each other, there are wins and losses, and the Women's Mexico team are pulling together winning so far, especially with one specific match against the Women’s USA team.

The CONCACAF W Gold Cup was founded in 1991, and it was originally called the CONCACAF Women’s championship and was later changed to the Gold Cup in 2000. The Gold Cup is an international women’s soccer competition contested by senior women’s national teams of the member association with CONCACAF. The Cup involves 15 CONCACAF and CONMEBOL teams who qualify, once that preliminary round is over it moves into 12 groups and so forth to quarter & semi-finals to then the final round.

Last year in the CONCACAF cup, the finalists were Mexico and USA, with Mexico taking the win 2-0. The women’s national team for Mexico has always been well in their placements, especially this year with now the team making it to the semi-finals for the Gold Cup!

During the match between the USA and Mexico, a lot of plays were involved, and although USA had more possession with 62% rather than 38% Mexico was able to surpass USA scoring against them 2-0.

Lizabeth Ovalle who plays for the Mexico team scored 38 minutes in with an astonishing long kick all the way to the opposing teams' goal. The ball went in, making people in the stadium go wild, it was a strong first goal for the Mexican team. During the second half, around 90 minutes in with extra time, Mayra Pelayo-Bernal scored the second point for the team just right outside the goal area for the USA. Crowd went wild and just with that once the extra time was over, Mexico won against USA preceding the next match!
