Upcoming Movies: 2023

As this year comes to an end, we have plenty to look forward to in 2023 with major movies that will be released within the year.

Halloween Ends:10/14/22

Halloween Ends is the follow up to 2021’s Halloween Kill’s. Both films have the same director, David Gorgan Green, and team behind it. This is the final film in the Blumhouse trilogy of Michael Myers movies which started back in 2018. As advertised, this will be the “last” Michael Myers film ever, but we all know he’s going to return in a few years. This film stars Michael Myers against the true Final Girl, Laurie Strode, for one last final battle between the pair

Black Adam: 10/21/22

Black Adam 2022, Starring Dwayne Johnson, is a spin off of 2019's Shazam. This film serves as an origin story to Dwanye’s character, Black Adam and an expansion of the DC Extended Universe. Introduced in this film are other heroes such as, Dr. Fate, Atom, Hawkman, Tomaz, Sabacc, and Cyclone. As Dwayne always says, “the hierarchy of power will change in the DCEU.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: 11/11/22

Reaching just about 2 hours and 41 minutes, Blak Panther: Wakanda Forever, will be one of the longest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects, closing phase four of the MCU. This film deals with Wakanda losing their king, T’achalla. As of now, the reason for his death is unknown but his passing massively impacts the story of the movie. Introduced are two new characters, Namor and Riri Williams aka Iron Heart. Without a leader, Wakanda is unable to defend itself from rival civilization led by Namor. The late Chadwick Boseman, who played Black Panther from 2016-2019, passing affected everyone. The cast of this film, expressed their thoughts at a convention stating, “It just doesn't feel the same without Chadwick.”

Avatar: The Way Of The Water: 12/16/22

This film is directed by James Cameron and stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet. Taking place more than a decade after the events of  2009’s Avatar, this film follows the Sully family, the danger that follows, and the battles they must fight.

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania: 2/17/23

Starting off 2023 for the MCU, Ant-Man and The Wasp. This opens Phase 5 and will start setting up the events for the conclusion of the multiverse saga Avengers: Secret Wars. The threat Ant-Man and Wasp will have to deal with is none other than Kang, The Conqueror. We met a variant of him back in the Disney + series Loki, released back in 2021. He’s set to be the next major villain of the MCU. He has his own Avengers movie releasing in 2025 titled, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige. Some fans believe the MCU has not been the same ever since Avengers: Endgame, believing it's become too much of a joke and never took itself too seriously. With the tone of this film being darker, the MCU has a chance of getting back on track.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie: 4/7/23

Created by Illumination and Nintendo, The Super Mario Bros Movie had some doubt by many when it was initially announced due to its interesting casting choices. The internet went crazy over the big names casted. This movie stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Jack Black as Bowser, Michael Key as Toad, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong. The very first look into the movie was released back on October 6th of this year and it looks absolutely amazing; the animation and character designs are fantastic. Jack Black tries his best to match the deeper tone that Bowser has in the game, despite Bowser never even talking and he does a great job. Then we have other performances that aren't that true to the character. Unfortunately, Chris Pratt, voice actor of Mario, doesn't seem to completely match the original voice of Mario. Nevertheless, I still have very high hopes for this movie.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Part 1: 6/2/22

This film is a sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the spider-verse. The last film had other Spider-men/women, such as Peter B Parker and Gwen Stacy, come into Miles Morales’s universe and help him become a true spider-man and to learn his newly discovered spider-powers. In this film, Miles himself will be traveling the multiverse. This will lead to him encountering many new friends and foes all across the spider-verse such as Miguel O’Hara, a.k.a Spider-Man 2009, and other Spidey's such as, Cyborg Spidey, Japanese Spidey, Spider-Punk, and Spider-Woman. Whenever Miles enters a new universe, the art style of the movie changes. For example, one second it could be animated and fully colored, and the next it would be black and white or even turn live action. As the title mentions, this will be the first part of “Across the Spider-Verse” so it's most likely end on a cliffhanger.
