Quadchella Countdown: Live Lunchtime Student Performances

Quadchella Countdown: Live Lunchtime Student Performances

The week before Quadchella, five amazing student musical groups performed  during lunch each day to build excitement for ASB’s main event on Friday, April 28th. This was an awesome way to let Mustangs express themselves and let their music be heard!

On Monday, April 24, juniors, Rolando de Leno and Kaynye D’Olivera played the electric guitar, Veta Allen-Weed and Sophia Leone sang, and seniors, Kai Huang played the bass guitar, and Jack Leong played drums.

The group realized they were “all musically inclined” and started to practice and perform covers together. Although they don’t have a name yet, they plan to create original songs. “We just wanted to make music.” said Sophia Leone.

On Tuesday, April 25th, junior, Joseph Hufford and senior, Isa Mills, performed multiple songs.  To hear some of their covers, go to their Instagram account, @joeandisamusic.

The songs they played were “Landslide”, “Don’t Know Why”, “Algo Contigo”, “Fade Into You”, “I’d Rather Go Blind”.

On Wednesday, April 26th, juniors Jacob Toledo played bass and vocals and Joseph Hufford played guitar, while seniors, Nolan Nguyen on trumpet, Jacob Fesili on trombone,  and alumnus, Marky Jimenez on the drumset played “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars, “Maria Maria” by Sanranna and The Product G&B, “Gravity” by John Mayer, “This Love” by Maroon 5, “Santeria” by Sublime, “Beautiful Girls'' by Sean Kingston, and lastly “There Will Never Be Another You'' by Chet Baker.

They were brought together by their love for music and performing. This group doesn’t have a name to call themselves and don't have any social media accounts together.

On Thursday, April 27th, a group of  senior performers, Rachel Domingo, Tiana Luong, and Clarice Encarnacion, called themselves, “Da ASB” band. Rachel Domingo and Clarice Encarnacion are both vocalists and Tiana Luong played the guitar. Rachel and Clarice “always wanted to perform together.”

The songs they played during lunch were “Butterfly Fly Away” by Miley Cyrus, “No Scrubs” by TLC, “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson, “Clementine” by Grant Perez, “This Love” by Maroon Five, “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves, “You Belong With Me” by Talor Swift, and “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur.

Friday, April 28th, was the last lunch before Quadchella. DJ, King Julian, also known as Julian Torres, is a junior here at CMHS. He played tracks from the hip hop and house genre, as well as some of his own original pieces.

His inspiration is his dad, “I’ve always wanted to be a DJ since my dad is. So, I'm following in his footsteps.” He also mentioned that he played violin for five years and is learning how to play the piano.

To see some of his work, go to his Instagram account called @Kingjulianmusic. King Julian is coming out with some tracks in June on “SlothBoogie Records”, which is another place to find his work at.
