Online Gambling Has Turned Into Betting On Anything

Online gambling has become more popular over the years and has become more addicting. Most data and research have proven that online gambling has become more addictive than drugs and drinking.

Online gambling used to be reserved for sports, but recently online gambling has developed in both good and bad ways, depending on how you look at it. The new thing is that you are able to bet on really anything, like things that go as far as how many times the president will say “America” or even betting on what the groundhog will say about winter.

There are some specific apps or sites that allow you to gamble on anything, like Polymarket and Kalshi.

History

Before internet gambling, gambling was popular in casinos. Most betting was made on card games and horse races, but it was also popular for sports. It carried on through the 20th century when you were able to gamble online.  You were able to gamble on any sport about what teams were going to win and what certain stats a player would get in a game.

One of the biggest innings in sports betting history happened in 2022 when Jim McIngvale bet on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. The Astors and Jim made $75 million. Nowadays people bet on political moments like who is going to win the presidential race and go as far as betting which song an artist will sing at their concert.

What are Polymarket and Kalshi?

Now, of course, you have to be of age to gamble, and the legal age here in the United States is 18, but the biggest platform for online gambling is Polymarket. It is the world’s largest prediction market, where it allows users to predict the outcome of real-world events like politics, economics, and pop culture.

Some bizarre bets that have been placed on Polymarket have been what the being would be on the finale of Stranger Things and what Elon Musk would tweet or even how many times he would per day.

Kalshi is a smaller version of Polymarket, as you can also bet on real-world events, although Kalshi is federally regulated. The government has approved of Kalshi, but they looked over and monetized users’ bets. Users must also follow strict rules and conform to their age. Kalsi does not allow sports or casino gambling, but it allows political and weather betting.

All in all, online gambling has developed into an addictive website where you can bet on anything only if you are 18.
