Minecraft Announces its First New Dimension in Years. Minecraft was first released in 2009, so the game has now been out for 17 years and has sold more than 300 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best selling video games of all time. Now after more than 14 years, Mojang Studios, the creators of Minecraft, have announced a brand new dimension. During a Minecraft live event, they said the new dimension will be named the Sift and will be officially released to Java and Bedrock editions in 2027. For now the new dimension is only available on Minecraft Dungeons II, a separate game that is focused on action and role play.
The new Sift dimension will be Minecraft’s fourth dimension. Mojang described it as a vibrant and colorful place filled with souls; these details would make it different from the other dimensions, the Overworld, Nether, and End. The official announcement confirmed that the Sift will have new mobs, threats, and companions. So far the only mob that they confirmed is coming to the new dimension is called the Blub. The Blub seems to be a friendly mob and will look similar to a rabbit with a glowing body similar to a soul.
Since Minecraft Dungeons II is already released, the creatures or mobs and the biomes in the Dungeons II Sift can be similar to what they add to the Java and Bedrock dimensions in 2027. We can learn from Dungeons II that the Sift will have different biomes and challenges. While the full list of biomes is still unknown, Mojang confirmed two different biomes that are coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions, the Meadows and the Carapace. These biomes look really cool and fun to explore. The Meadows Biome looks very pastel and vibrant with lots of colors, while the Carapace looks a little more gloomy and dark.

Along with the new dimension comes new environments and obstacles players can explore and complete. An official Xbox announcement explains how there will be shifting tides and it will change how you explore the Sift as well with players and mobs around you. The shifting tide isn’t the only natural thing that will affect you, though; there will be new hazardous blocks that players will need to be aware of when exploring. However, this is all we currently know. Mojang hasn’t explained how these mechanics will actually work.
Overall, Minecraft’s Sift seems like an exciting addition to the game. When it arrives in 2027 players will be able to explore the new biomes and challenges it brings. It would give players a new but different experience unlike any other dimension, the Overworld, Nether, and End. Although there is still so much we don’t know yet about the new dimension, from what Mojang has already said, it seems like an awesome addition to the game and we can only look forward to what exploring the Sift dimension is actually like. Until then we will just have to wait for the official release date to discover what the dimension has to offer.
