Chloe’s College Corner: Recruiting

Today’s second article of Chloe’s College Corner will be about recruiting! If you are interested in getting recruited for your sport to play in college, read this article to find out how and when you should apply yourself.

When you become a junior, you are officially allowed to reach out to coaches. You may be wondering, how do I reach out? Do I call? Do I text? Email? The answer is simple, you must email the assistant coaches. Surprisingly, the head coaches won’t be the ones you want to reach out, the assistant ones are the ones who help you get onto the team, or direct you to one that may suit you better.

The email is simple, it doesn’t have to be like your AP Lang class, but it should be in the correct format. In the email, you want to introduce yourself, state why you want to be on their team, and your GPA. You should also put your strengths in it depending on which sport you play. All sports are different, so when I say strength, as an example, for football, include your position and your stats. If you are a swimmer, put your main events and the times you have for them.

You may also add emails and pictures into your email. Sometimes the more visuals the better. If it is a video make sure it is no longer than 2 minutes, and that it is at the end of your email.

Make sure the schools you choose have good academics as well, because although you are more focused on sports, you do have to find the balance between academics and athletics. So before you reach out make sure they are a good school for whatever your major is.

Of course you may not get responses back, but don’t be discouraged because the more you apply yourself the better chance you have of hearing back!
