Welcome back to this week’s article on Chloe’s College Corner. Today’s topic will be majors. What majors there are, how to choose etc.
A major is a topic of interest in which you choose to learn it. In total there are 1,800 majors to choose from. Each major has a list of different classes that you must complete. Some majors are basic like, Communications, Business, Finance, others are more unique such as, Gay/lesbian studies, Disability Studies, Deaf studies. If you wish to find out more, click this thing to see all 1,800 majors. https://www.mymajors.com/college-majors/
Choosing a major can be simple or a challenge, depending on your interests. Typically, the first year or two you are able to switch majors, you don’t have to stick with it. However, this doesn’t mean you should just choose a random one. You should pick a topic of interest after doing some research. Things to consider when choosing a major are, will it lead to a career path, is this something you’d enjoy for at least 2 years, and would want to pursue. The major you choose should be something that you would want to pursue a career in. So, personally, I believe it’s best to make sure the major you choose can lead to a career with a good pay. In some ways, your major dictates your future salary.
College board has an article, https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/plan-for-college/find-your-fit/choosing-right-major-for-you, in which also helps you choose a major. They give you tips and tricks in order to help you choose, because getting stuck is so normal! A great tip listed is to make a list of top 10 majors you’d be interested in and do your research! It’s all a part of the process. If you apply undecided, it can lead to graduating late, interns and finding work may be more difficult to find, and much more. There are a couple pros, such as boosting your GPA. However, the cons outweigh this. A list of pros and cons is listed within this article, https://collegekickstart.wp.drake.edu/pros-and-cons-of-an-undecided-college-major/ Please use the links to continue your learning journey before you decide your major!
