Homecoming Football game

The homecoming game took place on Friday, October 17. The game was packed as it was the biggest game of the season. The crowd was loud, singing to music and cheering for our Mustangs. Kickoff was at 7:00pm, and our opponents were the Bolsa Grande Matadors. Bolsa Grande got the ball first and were sadly able to score quickly. Although they scored, they missed the extra point. Mesa wasted no time in scoring as Andrew Weiss went down the field for a rushing touchdown. Bolsa Grande’s defense could not stop our Mustangs as Andrew ran for another touchdown, making the score 14-6 at halftime.

The announcement of the Homecoming Queen was announced at halftime. Due to two of the two potential kings, Andrew Weiss and Carlos Alcala, being in the game, only the queen was announced. All the contestants walk to the center of the field to wait for the announcement. The winner of Queen Royalty was Scarlett Villarreal!

The second half of the game started as Mesa received the ball first. Both defenses wouldn’t let anyone score. Our defense gave us the game late as Louis Arreola got an interception and took it to the end zone for a touchdown. To make it even harder to come back, Gavin Garza ran in for a 2-point conversion to extend the lead to 22-6. Gavin was able to run for 124 yards, with his longest being 31 yards. Later in the 4th quarter to seal the game, Andrew threw a touchdown pass to #7, Justin Hernandez. Costa Mesa won our homecoming game 29-6, advancing to 7-1 on the season.

Make sure to come and see our last 2 games of the season as the Mustangs stampede to the playoffs.
