CMM/HS WEB is a program that was created by the middle school ASB director, Evonne Marvin. It was created to help incoming 7th graders feel welcomed and to help them get used to their first year of middle school with the help of 9th and 10th graders. WEB leaders help with many things, such as rallies and fun events to get 7th graders excited for middle school. They will be helping Maverick Ambassadors during VIP week and during the CMMS Halloween dance.
The Hitching Post interviewed Mrs. Marvin, who helped create the WEB program. We asked her about when and why the program was created, and she said, “The program was created 2 years ago because Dr. Potnis (our previous school principal) wanted a program that would encourage a positive school culture.” We also asked her what is something that she is proud of from WEB. “I’m proud of the growth that I’ve seen in the WEB leaders. The leadership has helped leaders grow and succeed.”
The Hitching Post got the chance to interview Karina Gomez, who is the vice president of 1st period WEB class. Karnia’s role as vice president is to work on important things like creating posters, advertisements, going to WEB meetings, and coming up with events. We asked her what it’s like being part of the WEB program, and she said, “Being a part of WEB is cool because I get to help 7th graders feel welcomed. I enjoy going into classes and doing activities with the students and taking part in all the WEB events.”
We also asked her if next year’s 9th graders should do WEB, and she said, “I totally recommend the upcoming 9th graders to join WEB! It brings so many opportunities, friends, and bonding, and it’s great to have in your high school achievements.”
During WEB class, WEB leaders do projects, discussions, come up with ideas, and lots of other fun activities. They often do fun activities with 7th graders during lunch, such as games. WEB leaders go through training where they learn many different techniques and fun activities they can do with the 7th graders.
