1. They were cheated out of a World Series title by the Astros
In 2017, the Dodgers played the Houston Astros in the world series. They lost in 7 games. Late last year, it came out that they had been cheating that season, stealing signs and then relaying those signs to the batters by banging trash cans. There were multiple close games in that series that almost certainly would have gone the other way if the Astros weren’t cheating, so the Dodgers should have won.
2. They’ve been the best team in baseball the last several years
Over the last four seasons including the current one, the Dodgers have been to two World Series (losing both), have had the best overall regular season record by a considerable margin twice, and have been one game off from having the best overall record. They have consistently been at the very top and deserve to finally break through.
3. Clayton Kershaw is too good to retire without a ring
Longtime Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is one of the greatest pitchers of all time. He has yet to win a World Series and is starting to get up there in age. Winning it all this year would do wonders for his legacy and he would avoid becoming yet another ringless legend.
4. It would honor Kobe
Early this year, before everything fell apart, Lakers legend Kobe Bryant passed away in a tragic helicopter accident. The Lakers already won the NBA championship in October, if the Dodgers could also win within a month of when the Lakers won, on the year Kobe died, it would be the greatest possible way to honor him.
5. They haven’t won a World Series since 1988
It’s been 32 years since the Dodgers won the World Series and there are only 30 baseball teams. It’s time that they won one. The last few years have been the best opportunity they’ve had in a while and this chance won’t last forever. They need to capitalize on it now, or it could be another 32 years until they have another chance.
