What is a Marching Band Performer? A marching band performer is a student that knows how to play an instrument and then is taught how to march. As marching band performers, they are given uniforms to put on for their events. Not only that, they are given rules and regulations to follow.
Most people will say marching band is not a sport and that it’s just a music sheet. A person who knows nothing about marching band will always confuse them with the intermediate band or just call them the advanced band. The Marching Band has to go to football games, competitions, basketball games, and more.
Being in the Marching Band means being at school by 7:30 at the latest. Being a performer also means that practices are always three or more hours long. There are performers' practice at night after school or also before school even starts. After many practices, the marching band performs their best and are ready to compete with 15 different schools for the top five best schools of Orange County.
As performers, they get used to doing things with their bodies that most people say are unnatural. These performers are told to always step with their left foot. The performers are given only two to three minute breaks throughout the whole practice. Their Drum Major, Dani Lopez, always says “One more time guys, or we continue. So do it right or repeat.”
The performers are told to wear the famous green uniforms, and their drum majors wear their gray uniforms. These uniforms are made to be fitted onto their body and to be taken care of at all times. Nobody understands them when they say they get hot. The performers body heat mixes in with the uniforms' thick and heavy heat that’s already produced. These performers are always told to stay hydrated so they don’t pass out.
Not only that, they have to do their jobs with instruments that are falling apart or just don’t work. The performers have to make sure that their instruments are put together and ready to go.
Costa Mesa High School is always proud of the Marching Band and always helps them no matter what. The football games will always have their band to keep them up and high at all times.
