Swim Season Spotlight

Hello Mustangs! Are you interested in being involved in spring sports? Have you ever thought about joining or supporting the swim team? In today’s article, I will be talking about our only Division 1 sport here at Mesa, and hopefully, spark your interest!!

Let’s get into some of the facts!! Our high school’s team has grown drastically over the years, with such amazing talent. Since my first day on the team, we have climbed up the rankings, claiming our titles of boys Division 1 swimmers, and girls in Division 2.

In 2023, our boys won CIF division 3, making school history, and climbing up to division 2. In that same season, our girls placed third, which is the highest our swimmers have ever placed in Mustang history! In 2024, our boys won CIF yet again, making them the only sport in our school to be in division 1.

Since then, our girls have stayed in division 2, but have high hopes for an amazing season this year. Our team has many strong athletes who have contributed to breaking school records and helping the team achieve the spot they are in today.

Throughout my years here at Costa Mesa, being a part of the swim team has truly changed my life. Swimming has taught me more than just the obvious, how to swim, but how to dedicate yourself to something, how to be confident, and how to be a part of a team. But let’s hear about what some other swimmers think.

Karolina Sangasy on our varsity team has talked passionately about her high school season experience and has said that “High school swimming gives me a chance to share love with people for my sport who might not have enough knowledge about the swimming world. And being able to help my peers navigate the sport altogether through the four years of high school that I have is really special because, not only does it make my relationship with my sport stronger, it gives me the opportunity to create strong relationships with other people by making a great community out of it.”

Another one of our swimmers, AJ Pang, has said that, “I feel like the high school season really develops a close community and it’s always fun to enjoy our season altogether.”

Melanie Pang claims that “High school swim season is always very fun, and has allowed me to meet new people and form closer friendships.” Chloe Wool-Smith has stated that, “High school swimming has impacted me more than just being an athlete on a team. Swimming has given me the chance to bond with my teammates and build lifelong friendships. The sport in itself is challenging so finding the right group to train and have fun with is very important to me.”

This season, we are looking forward to more fun, fast swims, some wins, and another good season to add to the books.

If you want to be a part of our fun community, please feel free to stop by the pool deck and go to our first high school practice on Monday February 9th at 3:15 PM.
