Marvel Rivals’ first season has arrived, and here's what's new.
The story this season involves the villain Dracula. Dracula plans to plunge the world into an eternal darkness, as the sun is deadly to him and his vampires. He wants this so that he may roam the earth and act as he pleases at his most powerful. However, the Fantastic Four are going to be there to make sure he does not succeed.
This season, Marvel Rivals will be introducing the Fantastic Four to its already extensive character roster. Currently, only Mr. Fantastic (AKA Reed Richards) and his wife The Invisible Woman (AKA Susan Storm) are in the game.
Mr. Fantastic is a duelist. Players have begun calling this class a DPS, a class based on avoiding damage and assaulting the enemy teams in versatile ways. His main attack is stretching his arms to beat the opponent at a range. He can also pull in enemies, pull himself towards them, and make his body bigger, allowing him to deal and take more damage. He also has a reflection ability, making it so that attacks bounce back and hit his aggressor. His ultimate allows him to become mostly invulnerable to damage while he turns into a ball and bounces around the map, dealing damage to all he comes into contact with.
The Invisible Woman is in the game as a strategist, also simply referred to as a healer. As per her name, she can turn invisible at any point she is not in combat. Her main attack shoots force field orbs, which damages enemies but heals teammates. She can shoot orbs that can draw in enemies and damage them, and another ability she has allows her to draw in or push enemies away. She can place a shield over teammates, which also heals the target. Her Ultimate ability allows her to create a force field, healing and turning all who come inside invisible, while also slowing any enemy who enters.
As with most games that get a big update, this one comes with a few balancing changes to make characters either more or less effective as the developers believe they should be. Some important changes involve Captain America, who previously was seen as ineffective. He now has extra health, certain cooldowns have been reduced, and his ultimate ability is now cheaper to pull off. Hela has had her health reduced making her less of a threat to players than some believed she was. If you'd like the extensive list, the official Marvel Rivals website includes all changes made.
Overall, this update has been a positive among fans and is only furthering excitement for the game.
