Canadian actor and star, Ryan Reynolds, is in the market for yet another professional sports franchise. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Fallon says, “There's a rumor going around that you may be interested in buying an NHL professional hockey team, the Ottawa Senators.”
Ryan Reynolds replies, “ Yes, that is true.”
Reynolds certainly does not deny the fact that he is very interested in buying the franchise. But there is one obstacle that stands in his way- money. Reynolds says, “I am trying to do -- It’s a very expensive… Yeah, I need a partner with, you know really deep pockets.” He is saying that he cannot buy the franchise himself and is seeking a consortium. “I need a sugar mommy or a sugar daddy.” A consortium is an association typically of several business companies or people.
Ryan Reynolds is currently owns the Welsh soccer team, Wrexham Association Football Club. Reynolds bought Wrexham back in February 2021 alongside actor Rob McElhenney. The team competes in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football league system, and are currently second place in the league with 43 points as of 11/15.
The Ottawa Senators currently are one of the worst teams in the NHL. The Senators have missed the playoffs the last 6 years, either coming last or second to last in the Atlantic division. If Reynolds purchases the franchise, could it turn the team around?
