Is Sabrina Carpenter an underrated or an overrated artist? When you say “Sabrina Carpenter,” there are heads turning from left and right. That’s because either you love and adore Sabrina, or you hate and despise her.
Everyone has their own preferences and opinions on different music artists, and this article is strictly based on other people’s opinions on who they think are the most underrated or overrated artists.
Anything that is called “overrated” is called that because that specific thing is overhyped or didn’t meet other people’s expectations, and it’s valued too much.
Music artists on mainstream are usually known to be overrated because their song is boring, overplayed, or everyone hypes it up too much— from pop, alternative rock, indie rock, country, folk, EDM, RnB, and more.
I asked 15 students here at CMHS, who they think the most overrated music artist is. 10 of them said Taylor Swift, 3 students said Olivia Rodrigo, and 2 students said Sabrina Carpenter.
Then I asked 3 of my teachers at Mesa, and 2 of them said Sabrina Carpenter and one of them said Zach Bryan.
At home, I asked my family of 8, and 5 of them said Taylor Swift, 2 of them said Chappell Roan, and one of them said Olivia Rodrigo.
Here’s a list of music artists that are commonly thought of as overrated: Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Ice Spice, Radiohead, Zach Bryan, Drake, Travis Scott, Machine Gun Kelly, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, and more.
However, “underrated” music artists can also be popular artists on the mainstream, such as Omar Apollo, SZA, Gracie Abrams, Laufey, Grent Perez, Clairo, Malcolm Todd, and again, many more.
Underrated music artists are usually artists that are underground, artists who don’t appear on mainstream or the radio, and either they own their own company or have another way for publishing their music.
I asked the same 15 CMHS students and 3 teachers who they thought was underrated. 3 of the students said Laufey, 2 said Gracie Abrams, 2 said The KID LAROI, 2 said Malcolm Todd, 2 said Clairo, 2 said Omar Apollo, one said The 1975, one said baebadoobee, one said wave to earth, and one said The Smiths.
The 3 teachers each said Dion and the Belmonts, Bruno Major, and The Smiths.
My family members said, Clairo, Grent Perez, Malcolm Todd, wave to earth, Dominic Fike, and Hotel Ugly.
Artists with impressive vocals, catchy songs, and phenomenal performances can somehow oftentimes be underrated. It’s crazy to think that there are tons of undiscovered artists that need to be recognized for their amazing talent.
