Mindful March

Mindful March has been a Costa Mesa High School tradition for about 4 years. After COVID-19, CMHS thought they needed to focus on the social and emotional wellness of students, and with the idea of Wellness Wednesdays and Mindful March from Corona Del Mar, they brought it to life.

Mindful March is a way to bring awareness to resources on campus that students can use, ways to alleviate stress, and ways to ask for help. Wellness Wednesdays happen every Wednesday during the month of March with different activities to help students get together and take a break from school, even if it’s only for a few minutes.

The Hitching Post had the opportunity to interview Mrs. Delzer, the ASB Director, who helps make decisions about Mindful March.

We asked her what she thought Mindful March meant to CMHS students, and she said, “It’s important to have events like Mindful March because students need to know that it’s okay to focus on themselves and their mental health. Teachers often only focus on academics and forget that students are teenagers that have other things happening outside of school. Teachers need to pause and show students that it’s okay to pause and take time for yourself. It allows us to get to know ourselves so we know when we need to take breaks, ask for help, or prioritize mental health.”

The Hitching Post also had the opportunity to interview Ellie Buffa, the 9th grade ASB president. We asked her what she thought Mindful March and Wellness Wednesday meant to CMHS students, and she said, “I think these activities provide a safe place for people to feel included and do fun activities.” We also asked which activity of Wellness Wednesday she thought students would enjoy the most. She said, “I think students enjoyed friendship bracelets the most because it allowed for them to make new memories with their friends, and they could also keep these memories with them”. The last question was, do students actually participate in the activities? And she said, “Yes, students do participate during these activities, but we do wish we had a bigger crowd.”

The 2026 Mindful March activities include friendship bracelets on March 4th, button making on March 11th, key chains/phone charms on March 18th, and stress ball making on March 25th. During the button-making event on March 11th, students  gathered with their friends to eat Broad and Brew sandwiches provided by ASB and make funny and creative buttons that they could wear on their backpacks, clothes, or different accessories.

Overall, Mindful March gives students a reminder that their mental health matters. By offering simple activities and a place to connect with friends, the event helps make Costa Mesa High School a more supportive and welcoming community.

Be sure to attend the last 2 events, and if you have any questions, you can contact Mrs. Delzer.
