Lionel Messi has done it again! Messi has officially won the 2023 Ballon D’or this year. Many had great appeal he would win this year after being taken off the nominee the previous year. What made Messi take the award this year ?
Lionel Messi as we know is one of the great soccer players in the world, his debut in all the teams he was signed onto made history in the books, especially his time in F.C. Barcelona.
Messi especially made history when he and the Argentinian team won the World Cup last year.
Messi and 29 other soccer players were nominated for the Ballon D’or this year, creating a spectacular race for the trophy. Many players from Manchester City, an English team, were nominated such as Rodri, Erling Haaland, and Julian Alvarez.
The race for the Ballon D’or began in October 2022 all the way to October 2023, international journalists monitoring and spectating who would win. Many chose to believe Erling Haaland would win this year's Ballon D’or since he has done a great deal in his time in Manchester City and winning the Premier League back in the 22-23 season. But Messi yet again took the win for this spectacular trophy.
Messi’s performance on the field for PSG along with Inter Miami, his current team, was somewhat fine, but what sparked the eye was Messi’s performance in the World Cup back last year.
Messi performed astonishingly, as always, in the World Cup with the Argentinian team leading the team to a 5-1 winning to lose streak, leading them to the World Cup finals where they faced off against France. The game was under pressure making them tie with France 3-3. The game ended with penalties with Argentina winning penalties 4-2. Messi’s performance in the World Cup ultimately led him into winning the 2023 Ballon D’or.
