Everyone has heard “Attention Maverick book club members,” at least once on announcements, but have you ever considered joining? Here’s everything you need to know.
Book club meetings are held in room 281 (Mrs. O’Mara’s room) at lunch. There will always be a reminder when there is a meeting, so don’t worry, you’ll never miss it!
Each time, you talk about the book, eat your lunch, relax, and even make new friends. Book club is a no-pressure, low-stakes club that is meant to help students fall in love with reading as well as feel connected at school.
You will be given a number of pages to read, and schedule meetings accordingly, giving you enough time to finish without feeling rushed. There are never any essays or assignments, the only thing you have to do is read!
You read one fiction or nonfiction book per quarter, and the books are student selected. In the past six years, students have read a variety of books including Divergent, Hidden Figures, Unbroken, The Boys in the Boat, The Westing Game, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Robin Hood, and The Fault in Our Stars.
They are currently reading The Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. It is the second book in the Uglies series.
You should consider coming to the next meeting, everyone is welcome! See you soon, and remember, reading rocks Mavericks!
