Famous YouTuber, Mark Fischbach, better known as Markiplier, is adapting the indie video game, “Iron Lung,” into a feature-length film.
“Iron Lung” is an indie horror game made in 2022 by David Szymanski. It is very successful for only being an indie game, and gets praise from the horror game community due to its well-thought-out claustrophobic, dreadful, and eerie atmosphere.
The game follows a convict that is welded into a submarine, with their only task being to explore the ocean of blood on an alien planet, which can be seen with a picture camera from inside the sub. The game takes place after every star and habitable planet in the universe had died decades prior to the game, with the only possibly habitable planet being the ocean of blood.
Markiplier has over 32 million YouTube subscribers, mainly posting “Let's Play” content, but also having done filmmaking before. His YouTube choose-your-own adventure series, “Heist With Markiplier,” and “In Space With Markiplier,” have given him credibility as a filmmaker and not just a YouTuber.
The trailer opens with a massive pool of blood, the convict slowly standing up covered in the blood, and a voice-over explaining the situation that the convict is in.
The movie will be in theaters either late 2023 or early 2024.
“Iron Lung” has a small cast due to the original game only being set in the sub. The limited cast includes Mark Fischbach as the convict and Seán McLoughlin, also known as Jacksepticeye, as the voice on the speaker that gives the convict instructions.
