The CMHS and CMMS jazz bands traveled up to Coronado HS this past Saturday for the Coronado Jazz Festival.
They arrived before their performances to watch the SDSU Jazz Band play some of their pieces for all of the performing bands that day.
After that, Jazz 2 (middle school) had their Salt & Pepper clinic, where the students got to play alongside the SDSU band and give them instant feedback and constructive criticism on their playing. Then Jazz 2 performed, earning high “excellent” ratings from the judges.
Directly after the Jazz 2 performance, Jazz 1 (high school) had their performance in the theatre, who earned unanimous “superior” ratings in their division from the judges. And after their performance, they had their Salt & Pepper clinic.
Many of both the bands soloists were acknowledged by the judges.
They ended the day with the Huntington Beach Jazz Bands at Buca di Beppo for a lovely dinner with the parents, directors, and performers combined.
