Bayer Leverkusen are the only unbeaten team in Europe. Here’s the story on how they reached this feat.
In the 2022-2023 season, Leverkusen were in a relegation spot in the Bundesliga, so they hired Xabi Alonso to help them get out of relegation. Alonso did not disappoint, bringing them all the way up to fifth to earn a Europa League spot for the following season.
Huge signings were made in the summer, bringing in Granit Xhaka, who has had a huge impact on Leverkusen, as he brings experience to their midfield. Victor Boniface was signed as well, scoring 21 goals in all competitions. Alex Grimaldo was additionally brought in on a free deal, and he is arguably their signing of the summer, racking up 29 goals and assists this season as a left back.
This year, Leverkusen have gone unbeaten in the Bundesliga, beating former champions Bayern Munich 3-0 and title contenders Stuttgart. They have now won the Bundesliga and also have a chance of winning the Europa League and the DFB Pokal Cup.
