Hello Mesa Nation and welcome back to another week’s article on the Hitching Post. Today my friends and I, Hunter Wigmore and Vince Buffa, will be reviewing South Swell ice cream and their specialty flavors. For those of you who have never heard or been to South Swell it is an ice cream shop located in Laguna Beach and San Clemente known for their fun sundae combinations. They tend to mix fun flavors and toppings with their homemade soft serve, but also have frozen banana bar options! If interested, check out their website to learn more!
One of the flavors we will be reviewing today is “The Parent Trap,” which consists of Oreos, peanut butter, and vanilla soft serve. Then we also have “The Strawberry Shortcake” which consists of vanilla ice cream, strawberry syrup, and angel food cake bites. The third combo we have is “The Game Changer,” which consists of chocolate cake and raspberry syrup with vanilla soft serve.
The Parent Trap
Chloe: “This one I would personally rate a 10 out of 10. I really like the flavors of peanut butter and Oreo together. I think that it’s a fun combination of flavors and fits very well.”
Vince: “I’d say that this one is a seven out of 10, it is not that bad however I’m not really a chocolate fan as this is Oreo, but I do like these flavors. I think it would be better however if it was chocolate ice cream as opposed to vanilla.”
Hunter: “Personally I would give this one a five out of 10. I’m not a chocolate or vanilla guy, I prefer strawberry. However I wouldn’t say that this is bad, and if you like Oreos or Reeses pieces, this is definitely the ice cream for you. It’s almost like a twist on Reese’s pieces.”
The Strawberry Shortcake
Chloe: “Although I’m not the biggest strawberry fan, I’m not going to be biased, and I will say that this is a pretty good strawberry option. I like the angel cake with the strawberry syrup and I think that it makes a really good specialty.”
Vince: “As I’ve been here a couple times this specialty is my favorite and I get this most of the time. I feel like this is a really good specialty. I love the flavors together honestly no complaints whatsoever. It’s not too sweet, but it is just the right amount.”
Hunter: “This one is my favorite. I always come to South Swell specifically for this and there are no complaints. This is the best ice cream I feel like I’ve ever had. No notes whatsoever.”
The Game Changer
Lastly, we will be reviewing the game changer, which is new to all three of us so these are our raw reactions.
Chloe: “I love chocolate cake, and I love raspberry flavoring. I had really high hopes for this to be honest and in my opinion, it’s not what I thought it was going to be. It’s not bad by all means however I just was expecting something more chocolatey and the cake kinda just falls apart and isn’t that pleasant overall I would say this is about a seven out of 10 not bad just not my favorite.”
Vince: “Surprisingly I loved this. I didn’t think I was gonna like this since I usually lean towards strawberry things, but this was really good. I would write this an eight out of 10. I really like the chocolate cake and I think the raspberry brings out the flavors of the ice cream.”
Hunter: “I did not like this at all as I said before I really like strawberry and these flavors just were not good together. I personally would write this a three out of 10 however, I know other people would like it.”
Overall, we love South Swell as we do come here all the time. We recommend The Parent Trap and The Strawberry Shortcake out of all three of the flavors we tried today. Let us know what your favorite South Swell combo is and we’ll try it next.
