Winter Rally is the Golden Ticket

On Friday, February 6, CMHS hosted a high school rally to celebrate winter sports, music programs, and upcoming campus events.

ASB Director Mrs. Delzer said, “Our winter sports rally was imagined with a Wonka theme this year. Our students create the theme and design all aspects of the rally, from scripts to posters to games. It’s a lot of work but we hope it celebrates all that makes Mesa great.”

When asked for comment, 10th grader An Nguyen said, “Oompa loompa doompady doo.”

The CMHS band played as students entered the big gym, and hosts Derek Becker and Charlie Kash, acting as Wonka and Charlie, opened the rally with a warm welcome for all the classes.

Next, Mrs. Riopka led the CMHS choir in a song to showcase their vocal talents.

History teacher Mrs. Gonzalez said, “I love that rallies showcase all of our students’ talents and abilities that not all their teachers might get to see on a regular basis.

Time to celebrate the winter sports! Team members of wrestling, girls water polo, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls basketball were represented. The team members participated in a donut eating contest with the wrestling team taking home the game win.

ASB members passed out “Golden Tickets” to students in each class, and the golden ticket holders played a “wig snatching” game. Sophomores took home the wig snatching win.

The rally concluded with reminders for the upcoming spring musical, Footloose, which will be performed March 25 – 28 in the Gilboe Lindfors Theater.

There was also a reminder for Dancing With the Teachers, which is tonight, Friday, February 6.

As the rally concluded, Foreign Language teacher Mr. Valenzuela said, “I appreciate every opportunity that we get to come together as a school. One of my favorite rallies of the year is the multicultural rally. I love watching students showcase their diverse talents.”
