The final two games for the Boys’ Water Polo team at Costa Mesa High School have passed, first against Laguna Hills and soon after, the league tournament to finish off the season. The past two months were rough for the Mustangs without winning one game while having the bare minimum of a team with only 8 players. However, each athlete did their job and put in their best efforts against some obvious mismatches. The most outstanding Mustang of the season was clearly Kingston Do, playing just about every position and having the vast majority of the goals, with an average above 5.0.
The final league game for the Mustangs started off badly for Costa Mesa. Laguna Hills had already scored 7 goals and Mesa only one goal. Slowly the Mustangs started gaining momentum, scoring more goals every quarter and improving on defense. The third quarter ended 6-12. Each team scoring 5 goals in these two quarters. Unfortunately, the Mustangs, exhausted from having no substitute athletes fell behind again, finishing the game with a score of 9-18. Losing every game in league was tough and there were not very high expectations for the league tournament, where they would play the same teams again.
The final game for the Mustangs was a rematch between Costa Mesa High School and Laguna Hills. The first three quarters were very one-sided, 15-3 with the Eagles heavily in the lead, the stat tables were running the clock trying to get the game over with. In the last quarter, Laguna Hills put their Junior Varsity team in the water to get some playtime and pretty much just have fun. In the final quarter, Laguna Hills scored another 3 goals, and the Mustangs scored 6. MVP for the Mustangs, goes to Kingston Do once again with four goals and many great defenses. While one of the two seniors could not attend the game, the team managed to have the same score as previously. Parker Hylton stepped up from playing basketball and baseball for this sport; while practicing for all 3 sports, he did make a few goals this season despite having no experience. Avrum Xagorarakis also scored three goals in the last quarter with all 3 being assisted by Kingston Do. The concluding game for the season was not as expected and the season was full of mismatches, however the Mustangs and every other team played their best.
