Inside Look of the CMHS Frosh Football Team!

The Costa Mesa Football season this year has taken a hit for both varsity and frosh! With the season kicking off already, the frosh team this year has been doing spectacular with a 4-2 overall record, winning more games than last season’s record of 3-5-1. These freshmen have been putting in all the work during this past summer and have been fierce on the field.

Coach Cash, who has run the frosh football team as head coach for the past two years and one year as assistant coach, granted the Hitching Post an interview. He’s very excited about the season going forth and the team’s commitment. He said, “This team is a very raw group, out of the 27 players, about only 4-5 had played football before.”

He spoke about how the environment these freshmen have created has been fun, the excitement they bring onto the field ready to learn whether that is new drills, skills, plays etc.

Cash responded on their win of Battle of the Bell, exclaiming how since his first year working with the team, they had never won until now. “Seeing the looks on their faces winning was huge.” said Cash on how it felt winning.

Cash spoke about the future of the frosh team, and the individuals he sees going forward into the next three years of high school and football; “There are a lot of guys on this team that definitely have aspirations to go to varsity.”

Many players from the team also granted the Hitching Post interviews. Freshman Ziggy Babovic was mentioned in the interviews of multiple players, exclaiming how Ziggy is a teammate they see as a role model to them. “A big role model to me would be Ziggy,” said Freshman Logan Doane.

Freshman Madden Lyons explained how, as a new student in our high school and in the Costa Mesa Football program, it has been fun and exciting being in the Costa Mesa environment. “I see myself continuing with football because the program has been really fun,” said Madden.

Among the interviews, a lot had similar things to say in their love for football. Freshman Shayan Tavakoli said that he enjoys the contact of football, along with freshmen Daniel Delgando saying the same. “I like the roughness of football, it’s very fun.” said Daniel.

Many of the players this year on frosh are eager to continue their season this year, fighting and  bringing the win to our Costa Mesa title!
