Why You Should Take Psychology

Do you ever wonder why people act the way they do? Have you ever wanted to go deeper into that question? If you’re interested in learning more about yourself and your peers, Psychology might be the right class for you.

In this course, there are a plethora of topics you will go over (However, they are more in depth in AP Psych). These include research methods, perspectives of psychology, conditioning, development, memory, and many more!

And, of course, you will go over regions of the brain and their functions, some of which you probably didn’t even know were there. This will help your understanding of the limbic system, endocrine system, and nervous system, as well as what they do and why.

If you decide to jump into AP Psych, you will go over mental illnesses, such as Major Depressive Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Post-traumatic stress disorder in much more depth compared to regular psychology. Along with this, you will also learn about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain.

This class will benefit you in many ways, such as helping you to understand more about your personality, environment, and motivations. Another useful thing that you’ll get out of this class is that you’ll learn what study methods work and which ones don’t.

And when it comes to understanding other people, social psychology will help you understand things like the Bystander effect, or how social interactions, in general, may affect our patterns of thinking.

If you’re interested in learning more, our school actually offers a psychology class, which takes place in room 208. Mrs. Soldin teaches regular and AP Psychology.

A reason students tend to enjoy her class is because, not only do we learn, but we watch videos and movies that portray psychological phenomena to help us understand further. We also do fun activities and projects that relate to what we are learning, whether individually or with our peers.

And on top of that, Mrs. Soldin offers plenty of extra credit opportunities throughout the year if her students are struggling. So, if you’re considering whether to take psychology at Mesa, I say you should go for it!
