Is Chelsea’s new manager already too far in the deep end? Mauricio Pochettino’s early struggles are on full display after a huge Carabo Cup final loss last Sunday (2/26).
Historically, Chelsea are one of the most successful, and greatest English football clubs, but in recent seasons they look nothing like their old selves, as they have placed in mid-table positions in the Premier League.
Tensions were high leading into last Sunday as Pochettino led Chelsea to the final of the League Cup, where they would face Liverpool. The game put the limelight on Pochettino once again as when the game was winding down, he tactically put Chelsea in the lead, as they put immense pressure on Liverpool’s inexperienced side.
However, as extra time began, Pochettino’s side looked weak and scared, allowing the pressure to be put upon themselves, which would inevitably lead to a game winning goal by Liverpool captain and legend Virgil Van Dijk, who would lift the League Cup trophy for Liverpool.
The media put Pochettino on blast as he admitted he told the team to play for penalties, which cost Chelsea a valuable trophy, and possibly Mauricio Pochettino his job.
The football season is far from over, but it seems Chelsea’s and Pochettino’s might already be over.
