The last book in The Hunger Games franchise, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is finally getting a movie adaptation.
The trailer shows the main characters going through the 10th annual reaping ceremony, however this year the games will be broadcasted to all the districts. The trailer alone shows strong themes of power, greed, and privilege.
Coriolanus Snow will be Lucy Gray's mentor before she goes into the games. This movie takes place years before President Snow becomes a tyrannical leader. The trailer also showed a flashback of when Coriolanus Snow and his sister, Tigris, are caught in the middle of the war, and could give a reason why Tigris, a wealthy person in the capital, shows empathy towards the tributes.
The previous four movies follow Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, both 16-year-old tributes from district 12 that compete in the 74th and 75th Hunger Games. The movies show the struggle of the games, fame from winning, and eventually overthrowing the government.
Rachel Zegler will portray Lucy Grey Baird, Hunter Schafer will portray Tigris Snow, and Tom Blyth will portray Coriolanus Snow. The movie will be released to theaters on November 17.
