The famous host of “Price is Right,” Bob Barker, has been reported dead at age 99.
On August 26th, 2023, Roger Neal, Barker’s representative, reported his death. No one knows the cause of his death.
Barker had lived a long, healthy life and had lots of achievements. One of those achievements was winning a total of 19 Emmy Awards. For more than three decades, he had hosted one of the most famous game shows on television.
At the beginning of his life, Barker was born in Mission, South Dakota, a town with just over 200 people. Barker had played basketball his whole life. He even got a college scholarship to Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. However, he dropped out after two years and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Barker never made it to combat. The war had ended before he was assigned a unit, so he went back to Drury. This time however, he wasn't playing basketball. He started radio writing and doing sport reports for Springfield radio station, KTTS. Shortly after, he had his own radio show called, “ The Bob Barker Show.”
A few months later, he finally got his first TV show. Ralph Edwards, host of “Truth or Consequences,” had been looking for an emcee for a daytime version of the show. When he heard Barker, he thought he was perfect for the job and hired him.
However, the company who aired the show didn't like the idea. They wanted to have a game show instead. So they let Barker host a new game show, and it ended up being a hit all over the world. Barker ended up hosting this for 19 years.
Barker then started hosting, “The Price Is Right” on September 4th, 1972. He even got to star in “Happy Gilmore” with Adam Sandler. People started to call him by his catch phrase, “Come on down!” Barker had so many amazing people attend the show, and he loved meeting them all.
Everyone all over the world will miss Bob Barker. He will forever be remembered as one of the greatest game show hosts of all time.
