Approaching the end of fall, we all gather around at a table and enjoy the company of family and friends during a time of Thanksgiving—the one holiday meant for you to show everyone who surrounds you and the people that you love just how grateful you are for them without the pressure of gifts and ceremonies.
In this cozy time of year, we have the opportunity to try different foods that are made at home or that are brought by family. Different tastes and textures are thrown around to make many lovely dishes for everyone.
The catch is when those lovely dishes become an enemy; when we all sit down, and you're asked, “why don't you eat this?” or “try this!” For the chef of the house, don't take it personally. People are made with different taste buds and favorite foods, and we’re still thankful you prepared the meal.
Here are the top main and side dishes that are made for a Thanksgiving feast that are disliked by picky eaters that are most likely to be seen at your table.
Sweet potato casserole - This half sweet treat and vegetable mush is always something that is looked forward to during the Thanksgiving feast. However, sometimes the sweet taste of the marshmallows ruins the good vegetables underneath. Even the texture of the sweet potatoes underneath can be soggy or dense.
Pumpkin pie or any fruit pie - Almost any pie that is served can be a hard dessert to swallow. The dislike for pie mostly comes from the wet fruit or the extreme sweetness of the jelly over top. Fruit pies are often the one group of pies that become a slimy cake of mush.
Cornbread - This bread can be a hit or miss. The cornmeal in your cornbread can make it crumbly. At times, the skin of the corn is still in the bread, which can make you feel like you're chewing on something hard in your soft food.
Cranberry - This side dish can either be a jello or cranberry pieces with the sauce. The cranberry gelatin can often come overly slimy in its can, with its juice pouring out, and it can be awful for people with sensory issues. The cranberry sauce most of the time has orange in it, which can make it bitter and distasteful.
Stuffing - This filing for your turkey is most of the time going to be the one left on the table, the reason being that it is like soggy bread. Like little croutons that got left in water and served with chicken broth and vegetables at times. All together, it makes a mush that seems only like a soggy slush.
Mashed potatoes and gravy - This dish can be seen as normal, but the gravy that comes with it can either make or break the dish completely. With the softness of the mashed potatoes, the gravy’s thickness can overpower and make it completely salty.
As we said the least favorite food, we should go over at least two foods that picky eaters will enjoy during the feast.
Mac and cheese - This cheese dish has always been a go-to and a safe option, especially when there are no spices, sweets, fruits or vegetables to mess up the flavor. It's enjoyed, especially because the flavor can be seen as a usual taste.
Ham - This is one of the most common foods to eat. It's juicy food that can go with other foods on the table. As long as it's not fully ruined with pineapple or fruit added to give it more of a sweet taste, then it can be perfect.
