CMHS Stampede

With the excitement of school and sports returning after a year of no in-person games, CMHS’s football games have been seeing heightened attendance from students and parents alike.

ASB member and Senior class Vice President Jayde Rubright noticed this level of anticipation for games and decided to create Costa Mesa’s very first student section page, @cmhsstampede

Here they post videos and pictures of student attendees, capturing the buzzing excitement, chants led by ASB members/the Cheer team, and reactions to touchdowns.

“The covid-19 pandemic really set everyone back physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Last year we weren’t able to have spectators at any sports games,” says Rubright. “Once I found out we were allowed to have spectators again, I knew I had to get the ball rolling and get our big audiences back for all of our sports.”

Every home game ASB decorates the stands for what's known as the “Student Section,” a student-only area of the stands.

From there, ASB members stand in front of the crowd, encouraging students to participate in cheers, chants, and overall just getting them in the Mustang Spirit.

Along with ASB members came the return of the Mesa Maniacs, male students from different sports who are painted green and lead chants to help cheer at each home football game.

“The students have so much love for this school, as seen on our account, and I'm glad we get to showcase it to everyone. We use the account to bring more people in and want to keep coming back to our games,” Rubright says. “We hope to get bigger turn outs at all our Mustang sports, not just football.”
