Back to the Future: The Musical

Back to the Future: The Musical is the adaptation of the iconic story of Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. It follows Marty McFly traveling back to 1955 with the time machine made by scientist Doc Brown, and Marty accidentally changes the course of history. With the help of Doc Brown, Marty tries to get back to the future of 1985.

The North American tour cast is currently still on tour and recently did a couple of shows at the Segerstrom Center of the Arts in Costa Mesa over winter break.

The main cast of the North American tour is Caden Brauch as Marty McFly, Don Stephenson as Doc Brown, Mike Bindeman as George McFly, and Zan Berube as Lorraine Baines.

Caden Brauch as Marty McFly is definitely the best decision. Brauch and Michael J. Fox’s mannerisms as Marty McFly is undeniable, but especially Brauch’s singing voice is the most memorable aspect of them all. Brauch checks all the boxes of showcasing Marty McFly’s personality as a confident teenager.

This musical stage adaptation is mostly humorous and has amazing comedic timing with impressive movie-like effects. Though this musical might not have the most memorable songs, some stand out because of the actors’ performances. The story is pretty faithful to the original and has the same comedic spirit.

In the beginning of January, my family and I got to see the North American tour cast, and it was very entertaining, and it was definitely worth every second. Caden Brauch did a fantastic job as Marty McFly. I believe that the musical did a great job of portraying the original movie.
