Doom-scrolling!
Do you find yourself doom-scrolling, and unfocused in school? Using the internet has shortened people's attention span. How long can you last in class without going on your phone texting? What about the person next to you? Scrolling through your phone and not getting anything done, what do you have to thank for that? Doom-scrolling!
We all know the apps that make us lose track of time: Tiktok, Instagram, YouTube shorts, Pinterest and Lemon8. You could get stuck there forever. The goal now is to get out of that habit.
Here are many healthier options to trade for scrolling online to adapt to better behavior. Benefits include gaining a better mindset, learning new skills, and continuing these options throughout the year.
Writing
It might be difficult for some to get in the mood to write on paper. Although you can write on your phone using the Notes app, it is more relaxing and healthier to avoid it on the screen. This is because when you write by hand, you remember more and process emotions better.
Painting
Being on your phone kills your creativity; it can fill your mind with “impossible” ideas of art, like the Mona Lisa or The Starry Night. Even if you don't like painting, or don’t care to finish a masterpiece, it creates a piece you can look back on. Painting is a soothing activity that's a perfect way to understand your emotions better through art.
Learning a new language
You can also use the phone for a good cause. You could use many platforms online to teach you a new language, and you can communicate with people better. Depending on the language you learn, it can help you get a job and make travel easier. It can also help you make friends with people from other countries and learn about their ways of life.
Reading more
Touching a book and paper is way different from looking at a screen to read books, it gives you the physical touch of flipping the page. Reading improves your vocabulary, makes you look and sound intelligent, and takes you through adventures. The blue lights and fluorescent lighting of the screen damages your eyes with long term usage. Reading newspapers or magazines can deliver news better to your eyes.
Self-care days
On self-care days, most people focus on skin care, but it's also a day to unwind and disconnect from the phone. It's your day—workout, dress up, go out, spend time with friends or family, and do anything that makes you happy. Even a day you spend by yourself can be self-care if you want to be alone for a little while.
