The year 2026 has just started and there are a lot of events to look forward to. 2026 will be a jam packed year, as we have the Winter Olympics, Celebration of America 250, and the rise of AI as it takes over the world.
Winter Olympics
The Winter Olympics happen every 4 years, and they are happening this year! It takes place from February 6 to February 22. This year the 2026 Winter Olympics are taking place at Milan Cortina in Italy. The Winter Olympics hold many sports and activities like skiing, snowboarding, skating, bobsleighing, and curling. This year they are debuting a new event, and that is ski mountaineering. It is a mix of uphill climbing and downhill skiing. Other sports consist of ice hockey, skeleton, and luge. The fan favorites are figure skating, ice hockey, and snowboarding. In 2022, Norway was crowned the winner of the Winter Olympics as they won the most medals. They look to defend their title this year. In 4 years the Winter Olympics will take place in France in 2030, hopefully being even better than this year.

FIFA World Cup 2026
This summer will be a time to remember as the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes place across all of North America. Games will be played in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, as the finals will be played at MetLife Stadium in New York City. The World Cup happens every 4 years, just like the Olympics. In 2022, Messi and Argentina will win it all as they proved to be the best soccer team in the world. This year’s World Cup is special because it could be the last for both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both of these legends look to win in probably their last World Cup. Right now, Spain is considered the favorite to win it as they have a wonder kid in 18-year-old Lamine Yamal, but close behind is the powerhouse of France.
Super Bowl LX
February 8th is a big day for football fans, as it’s the day of Super Bowl LX. As of this past weekend, there are only 4 teams remaining. In the AFC, we have the 6x Super Bowl champs, the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos. In the NFC, it is the home team of the Los Angeles Rams and their rival, the Seattle Seahawks. The current favorites to make it to the Super Bowl are the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. The current favorite to win the Super Bowl is the Seattle Seahawks after their dominant win against the 49ers. If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, then they will have the title of having the most Super Bowl wins in NFL league history. As the Super Bowl gets closer, it looks like the Super Bowl logo colors have struck again. For the last couple of years, the Super Bowl matchup has been predicted by the colors in the yeast logo. This year the logo has many logos, but some stand out more than others. There is a lot of blue, yellow, and red. Many people have speculated that the logos colors have predicted the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots to be in the Super Bowl.

California Governor Race
On November 3, 2026, there will be a new governor of California. Since Gavin Newsom cannot be re-elected, he is rumored to be making a run at the presidential seat in 2028. Some of the predicted candidates for the governor race are Xavier Becerra, Katie Porter, Tom Steyer, Chad Bianco, Eric Swalwell, Antonio Villaraigosa, Betty Yee, Tony Thurmond, Ian Calderon, and Steve Hilton. They all have their own plans to make the state of California a better place. Some of the things they look to do are to promote the new generation, lower costs, and fund education.
Celebration of America 250
This year will be the 250th year since we signed the Declaration of Independence. So basically America is 250 years old. The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th. It was the document that allowed the American colonies to break away from British control. In celebration of America turning 250, many cities across the United States will be hosting parades and special reenactments of the Declaration of Independence.

Rise of AI
As the years pass on, AI has gotten progressively better, or some may say worse. It first started as an assistance in machines, almost like coding. Nowadays people consider AI to have taken over the world, as it can do anything for you. Creators or coders of AI are looking to advance AI as they want it to help you with work, school, and daily life activities. Project management, coding, research, and designing are all being improved. Political people are also looking to use AI for their purposes. AI could even save the world, and political leaders are planning to use it to code secret military weapons. Although AI can do a lot of good, many people are afraid it will take over the world. Experts have stated that by 2035 all white-collar jobs will be completely taken over by AI. Like it or not, sooner or later AI will be your best friend.
