Mustangs Blowout the Net

On Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, the Mustangs Girls Water Polo team played against Segerstrom High School at home. The Mustangs secured their first win of the season after many difficult games with a skeleton team; however, they pulled through on the 7th scoring 18 goals against the Jaguars, who have also been having a rough season.

Mia Walker and Tessa Tougas scored the majority of the goals, with Mia scoring 10 goals in nearly every position. In the first quarter, it was clear which team would be winning, with the Mustangs having 6 goals while the Jaguars scored 0. The second and third quarter, Segerstrom scored 2 in each while the Mustangs scored 3 in each. If the Jaguars had this ratio throughout the game, it would have been pretty close. However, the Mustangs blew them and the goal out of the water with another 6 goals and not allowing the Jaguars to take a fifth home.

However, despite having a plethora of goals, the referees were not light on the Mustangs, as multiple athletes had 2 ejections and one being rolled. Just like games before this, it was difficult on the team having only 8 players. But, having one player be rolled, whether the call was fair or not, did not mean the Mustangs gave up and slowed down. It’s not like they had the choice to slow down either, as only 2 days later. Thursday, January 8th, 2026, Costa Mesa High School played against Buena Park in a close game. Mustangs with 9 goals and the Coyotes with 12.

Unfortunately, the GPQ, or goals per quarter, was not reported on MaxPreps. However, given that Buena Park played against Fullerton just the day before against Fullerton, winning by 8 goals and then going into another game against the Mustangs right afterwards, it’s safe to say both teams are very determined and hard working. Currently, the Mustangs have 1 win and 1 loss in League, and the coach, Jose De La Jara, is pushing them hard to secure the next two wins, and to win the League Tournament as well.
