Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Movie

The first game in the indie horror series, Five Nights at Freddy's, came out on August 8, 2014. This October 27th, the popular games will finally be getting a movie, eight years in the making.

The movie will follow a security guard, Mike Schmidt, who is played by Josh Hutcherson, well known from The Hunger Games franchise. In the movie, Mike is recently fired and looking for a job, so he can take care of his 10-year-old sister, Abby, played by Piper Rubio. Mike ends up taking a sketchy security guard job at an old pizza place that seems to be haunted.

Scott Cawthon, the creator of the games, released a statement in 2015 saying that they would be working on a movie based on the first game, which had come out just a year prior. In 2017, Scott Cawthon scrapped the entire script due to it getting stuck in development and several other delays.

The more games that were made meant new scripts had to be written to fit with the game’s lore. Due to the uncertainty of the scripts, Warner Bros. no longer wanted to be the producer, and it was switched to Blumhouse. Finally, filming started in early 2023, since Scott Cawthon eventually thought that the script fit the games.

On August 30th of this year, the second trailer for the movie came out, showing the broken-down pizzeria and Mike bringing his younger sister to work with him. The film will also include the four iconic animatronics created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

The trailer additionally shows the main antagonist, William Afton or Springtrap, played by Matthew Lillard, who was made famous by the movie Scream. During the trailer, Springtrap can be seen doing the iconic wiping blade motion as a nod to the Scream franchise.
