Randy’s Donuts: Costa Mesa’s Newest Addition

Are you nuts about donuts? On Harbor Boulevard here in Costa Mesa, a new drive-thru and walk-in shop called Randy’s Donuts has opened!

Famous for their iconic giant donut on the roof of the building and their delicious and unique selection of sweet treats, Randy’s is an excellent addition to our Costa Mesa community.

The first Randy’s Donuts opened in 1962 in Inglewood, California. Now, they have storefronts in several other locations including El Segundo, Downey, Pasadena, Torrance, South Korea, and of course, Costa Mesa! They also plan on opening a Randy’s Donuts in Santa Monica and Bakersfield.

Randy’s Donuts is very well known and has been featured in multiple tv-shows and movies including Iron Man 2 when Tony Stark sat in the hole of the enormous donut sign enjoying his baked delight and Nick Fury says the famous line, “Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to exit the donut!”

Randy’s Donuts was also featured in the Food Network series Buddy vs. Duff on the episode “Donuts and Magic.” as the place where the two chefs competed to make donuts.

Before Randy’s was located now in Costa Mesa, there used to be a Jack in the Box. Unfortunately, in the past year, this location of Jack in the Box went out of business. Luckily, there is still another one only a few minutes away. Now Jack In the Box lovers can still have their favorite fast food, while at the same time a new and more popular business can emerge.

“There’s another Jack In the Box over there! Who cares! Randy’s is iconic; it’s the only one in Orange County,” says David Martinez, a former Costa Mesa High School student who now attends the University of Southern California (USC). “I like Randy’s because the donuts aren’t as greasy. I give it a five out of five because it’s tasty! My favorite is the Chocolate Raised Donut,”

Randy’s Donuts has four categories of donuts and baked goods; Classic, Fancy, Deluxe, and Premium, all of which are reasonably priced and delicious.

The “Classic” flavors include Glazed Raised, Chocolate Raised, Sugar Raised, Maple Raised, Devil’s Food Cake, Wheat and Honey Cake, Cinnamon Crumb Cake, Sprinkles Iced Cake, Chocolate Iced Cake, Maple Iced Cake, Vanilla Iced Cake, Pink Sprinkles Iced Cake, Cherry Iced Cake, Plain Cake, and last but not least, Powder Sugar Cake. All of these classics are priced at $1.40 per donut.

The next category is “Fancy”. Each “Fancy” donut or baked good is priced at $1.90 each. The flavors are Raspberry Jelly-Filled, Lemon Jelly-Filled, Strawberry Jelly-Filled, Apple Fritter, Cinnamon Roll, Bear Claw, Chocolate Long John with Cream, Glazed Crondy, Sugar Crondy, Chocolate Crondy, Butter Crumb Raised, Coconut Raised, Chocolate Raised with Coconut, Roasted Coconut Raised, Fruity Pebbles Raised, and Fruit Loops Raised.

The third category is “Deluxe”, in which include Pink Raised with Sprinkles, Glazed Twist, Chocolate Twist, Plain Buttermilk, Glazed Buttermilk, Chocolate Buttermilk, Glazed Old Fashioned, Chocolate Old Fashioned, Chocolate Long John, Maple Long John, Chocolate Iced Cruller, Vanilla Iced Cruller, Blueberry Iced Cake, Blueberry Cake, and Lemon Old Fashioned. These goods go for $1.45 each.

The last group of donuts is called “Premium.” Each” Premium” donut is priced at $2.85. This fun and extravagant flavor category includes Matcha Tea Raised, Funfetti Cake with Ganache, Bacon Maple Long John, Texas Glazed, Maple Raised with Churros, S’Mores Raised, M&M’s Raised, Nutella Raised, Oreos Raised, Caramel Raised with Coconut and Chocolate, Red Velvet Cake with Ganache, and Coffee Raised.

If you’re wondering what the difference between a raised donut and a cake donut is, a raised donut is like a traditional donut, which is more of a light and airy texture, whereas a cake donut is more dense and cakey.

As you can tell, Randy’s Donuts has a wide selection to choose from, which may be a bit overwhelming.

If you feel undecided about what to try first, the cashier suggests you get the S’Mores Raised donut. Furthermore, they also offer donut holes, croissants, and various beverages, including several drinks made by Kean Coffee.

Although not fully available during COVID-19, Randy’s Donuts has indoor seating for those who would like to eat there. The interior is modern and trendy yet comfortable, like a cafe.

However, if you are in a rush, you can also use the drive-thru!

We are thrilled to welcome Randy’s Donuts into our Costa Mesa community! “I’ve been to Randy’s Donuts three times, and it kicks a**!” says a man that was waiting in line to order.

So, next time you have a sweet-tooth, consider trying Randy’s. They have delicious treats, an excellent reputation, and it is close to Costa Mesa High School. For more information and the menu, visit the Randy’s Donuts website.
