After the scary year of 2020 last year, gaming has been thriving with some real hits coming to shelves and digitally through announcements. However, gaming has been on a semi-shaky road after December 2020 when The Game Awards happened. Despite the award show getting a mixed reception, it has all been confirmed that E3 is going to happen this summer in June 2021.
The hit conference is going to be making a comeback, after the disaster year that was 2020. The show is going to be fully online and not in person, like it was in 2019.
Many companies are here to show off their stuff. There’s a chance this is going to be the biggest night in gaming, since there was no E3 2020 last year, due to the peak in Covid-19 cases especially in the summer months. You can bet there’ll be more exclusive content and huge announcements.
However, while some of the giants in gaming are going to show off their stuff, none of the confirmations have been more shocking than the Nintendo announcement, since they had a full Nintendo Direct two months ago, so not that long of an age gap there.
People usually love the Nintendo related announcements, because they usually mean a character reveal for their hit game “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate”. They’re currently down to 2 characters left in their second fighters pass in the game, with the last character reveal back in February on the 21st, with Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 making it to the game.
Because of the Nintendo announcement, people are off speculating on who the next character will be. Last time a Smash character was revealed during E3, there were two characters revealed: Hero from Square Enix’s “Dragon Quest,” and Banjo-Kazooie from, well, “Banjo-Kazooie.” So, will the last two characters in the fighters pass be showcased at the conference? Well, we can only hope.
Nintendo isn’t going to be the only company making it to the show however. There’s also going to be Konami, Capcom, Take-Two Interactive, and Warner Bros. Interactive.
Unfortunately, a few companies aren’t showing off most of their stuff such as companies like Square Enix, who said they’re taking a break for the year to focus on future project, specifically the 20th anniversary event of their hit game “Kingdom Hearts.”
So, what can we expect from the biggest night in gaming? Well, a lot of things. Either hype, or disappointment. Only time will tell if the biggest night in gaming turns out to be as big as the February 2021 Nintendo direct, or as big as a flop like the 2020 Game Awards. We can only hope that this will be good.
